LAS CRUCES, N.M. (AP) Voters in southern New Mexico's Dona Ana County gave mixed reviews to several ballot measures on Tuesday's election ballot. According to the Las Cruces Sun-News, final unofficial results show voters rejected a sales tax hike for public safety projects and a bond measure for upgrading the Southern New Mexico State Fairgrounds. On the other hand, the results indicate that voters approved one bond measure for building a new 911 call center and another finish building a facility to house pets confiscated in hoarding and abuse cases.
The sales tax increase would have raised money to operate a facility to help mentally ill people in crisis, to subsidize ambulance service and to pay for a county takeover of operating the 911 center. Several cities now help pay for it.
